LeJog

Adventure 1 -  Great Britain (the hard way)

Three perspectives from from three different people: One cycling, one driving and one through the eyes of a child.

We all know what a difficult time it has been for the people of the UK, with restrictions and all the mental health issues this has caused. When lockdown was lifted last summer my son (6 at the time) and I cycled from Wokingham to Wales, it was one of the proudest days of his life when we arrived at our final destination - 126.2 miles. So given that we are not flying anyway soon - we thought it would be a perfect time to attempt an epic journey for a good cause.

As we live in a beautiful country and we thought we would love to experience the places less travelled. As well as raising money for Regain, we are looking to support the local economy by visiting hidden gems, secret beaches and camping in a lot of different locations. If you would like to follow us on our journey please login to read our daily blog - hopefully written from three perspectives.  1 on a bike, 1 behind the wheel of a camper van and the third probably behind the screen of an iPad.

The plan: Try and avoid major roads and stick to the country lanes and cycle routes. Just to add a little extra spice to the challenge we decided to throw in a couple of parkruns aswell as stopping to climb the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland.

The Charity: Regain is a charity I have really enjoyed supporting over the last decade and we thought that this journey was really "Going the Distance" for the team. Any support would be really appreciated.

Land's End to John O'Groats

The LeJog cycle ride is the grand daddy of all cycling challenges in the UK, starting at Land's End in Cornwall (the extreme southwestward point in England) and finishing in John O'Groats (the most northeasternly point in Scotland). The route traditionally has a route distance of 874 miles. However, with a slightly detour across the Wales, and sticking to the Sustrans cycle network, we have managed to extend the journey to 1240 miles.

The 3 Peaks

The Three Peaks Challenge is one of the most popular trekking challenges in the UK and involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon), one after another – with an aim to complete the challenge within 24 hours, 48 hours or 3 Days. However, I am going for 10 Days and cycling between then as a part of our adventure.
