Route Plan

The Route: North to South — Around 1,100 Miles on Foot

I’ This is a self-supported, southbound JOGLE, covering approximately 1,100 miles. My route blends road, trail, and national paths — with some classic long-distance routes along the way, including the West Highland Way in Scotland.

One unique twist? I’ll be taking a short break from running to hop on a bike for a day — more on that below.

🏴 Scotland: From John o’ Groats to Glasgow

The journey begins at the far north of mainland Britain, in John o’ Groats. From there, I’ll head south-west through the wilds of the Highlands.

  • I plan to join the West Highland Way near Fort William — one of the UK’s great trails.
  • The route will take me through Glen Coe, past Loch Lomond, and into the Central Belt around Glasgow.
  • Remote, mountainous, and full of character — this part will test both legs and logistics.

🏴 England: Through the Middle of the Country

Crossing the border, I’ll continue south through England, following a varied mix of terrain.

  • Passing through national parks like the Lake DistrictYorkshire Dales, and Peak District.
  • The route tracks near CarlisleWiganStafford, and Worcester, keeping mostly to quieter roads and rural trails.
  • It’s not flat, but it’s a welcome change from the Highlands.

🚴 Thruxton Detour: Regain Summer Cycling Challenge

Before reaching the south-west, I’ll be making a planned stop at Thruxton Race Circuit to take part in the Regain Summer Cycling Challenge — a fundraising event for Regain Sports Charity, which supports tetraplegic athletes.

  • This will be a brief switch from running to riding — a day of cycling in support of a great cause.
  • It’s a unique pause in the journey, and one I’m genuinely looking forward to.

🏴 The South West: Devon and Cornwall

After Thruxton, it’s back on foot for the final stretch through the West Country.

  • I’ll head into Devon and Cornwall, with their famously hilly profiles and narrow lanes.
  • Towns like LauncestonTruro, and Penzance are likely stops before the home stretch.

🏁 Land’s End: The Final Steps

It all wraps up at Land’s End, the rugged south-western tip of England. After weeks on the move, reaching that marker will be an unforgettable moment — the finish line of a journey measured in thousands of footsteps.
